Tokyo Olympics 110 metres hurdles champion Hansle Parchment is among the latest group of six Jamaican athletes, three men and three women, who have joined Grand Slam Track, an upcoming professional track and field league founded by former American Olympic champion Michael Johnson.
The league will get under way in Kingston with the first meet set for April 4-6 at the National Stadium.
Grand Slam Track released the names of the challengers for the first meet yesterday. Parchment will be joined by fellow sprint hurdler Orlando Bennett and 400m hurdles specialist Malik James-King.
The women are World 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams, Shiann Salmon, a Paris Olympic Games 400m hurdles finalist, and Alana Reid, the World Under-20 100m champion and a member of Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team, which reached the final at last year’s Paris Olympics.
These six athletes will join four other Jamaicans among the 48 competitors already invited to the series. Those previously announced include 400m hurdler Roshawn Clarke and 100m sprinter Oblique Seville, 100m sprint hurdler Ackera Nugent, and 400m specialist Nickisha Pryce.
