Six Venezuelan nationals intercepted in illegal entry attempt off Icacos

Six Venezuelan nationals attempting to enter Trinidad and Tobago illegally were intercepted by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) late Tuesday night, in a joint operation with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The interception took place around 10:00 p.m. on August 13, 2025, after intelligence from the National Radar Center alerted authorities to a suspicious pirogue heading toward the country’s southwestern coast. A TTCG crew from the Cedros Base, including Petty Officer Seecharan, Able Seaman King, and Lead Electrician Adams, intercepted the vessel off the coast of Icacos.

The individuals were handed over to officers at the Cedros Police Station, where PC Valdez and his team launched investigations. Police say the swift, coordinated response ensured the detainees were processed in line with national laws.

The TTPS has reminded the public that safeguarding Trinidad and Tobago’s borders is a shared responsibility and is urging citizens to report any suspicious activity.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
