A third incident from over the weekend has found yet another minor operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. In this case, a 33-year-old woman is dead following a traffic accident involving two motorcycles along the main road of Trial Village, Orange Walk yesterday evening. Police say that at about six o’clock, they responded to reports of a fatal collision. Upon arrival, officers observed a white and black Lifan motorcycle parked on the left side of the roadway facing north, and a Hispanic woman lying motionless in the middle of the road. She was later identified as Delty Cordova, a domestic worker of Liberty Avenue, Orange Walk Town. Initial investigations reveal that 16-year-old Wilton Choc, a laborer of Coyoc, Trial Farm Village, was driving the Lifan motorcycle, accompanied by his passenger Nelson Choc. The pair were traveling from the direction of San Jose Village to Orange Walk Town. As they approached the area in front of Paraíso Bar, Choc reportedly made a sudden left turn across the highway. His sudden turn reportedly placed his motorcycle directly in the path of a black motorcycle traveling behind them, which was being driven by 43-year-old Jarreth Sherman Banks, a hospital attendant of Faber’s Road, Belize City. Riding with Banks was Cordova, who sustained severe head and bodily injuries when the impact flung both riders from their motorcycle. Cordova died at the scene as a result of her injuries. ACP Stacy Smith updated the media on this fatal incident.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “On Sunday, 7 December 2025 at approximately 5:40pm, acting upon information of a fatal traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway between Miles 54 and 55 within the Trial Farm Village Orange Walk, police visited the area and they observed the unresponsive body of a female who was later identified to be 33 years old Delti Cordova, a Belizean domestic of Orange Walk Town. Also observed on the scene were two motorcycles both of which exhibited extensive damage. What the ongoing investigation has thus far revealed is that Cordova was the pillion rider on a motorcycle driven by one Jarrett Banks, and the other cycle was driven by a 16-year-old minor who was accompanied by an 18-year-old Nelson Chuck. It is reported that the minor was driving the cycle from the direction of San Jose Village to Trial Farm and he was on the far right of the road and it is alleged that he made a sudden turn to the left without giving any indication and this caused Mr. Banner who was traveling in the same direction to collide into the rear of that cycle resulting in the injuries and and the death of Ms. Cordova. Police have detained the individuals in this incident and a notice of intended prosecution has been served on the minor. And the adult in this case was also detained for permitting a person to drive without a valid driver’s license. I have no indication on the face of this report what a sample we’re taking from them.”
Cordova’s body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead at 7:22 p.m. According to a report, the minor was not in possession of a driver’s license. Both motorcycles, however, were properly licensed, and all riders were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
