In a symbolic and prestigious gesture, reggae icon Sizzla Kalonji will be presented with the Key to the City of Lauderhill by Mayor Denise Grant during the city’s annual Jamaica Independence Celebration. The honour recognises Sizzla’s decades-long contribution to global music and culture, particularly his impact on conscious reggae and dancehall. This significant moment underscores the artist’s enduring legacy and the city’s deep-rooted ties to the Jamaican diaspora.
Set to unfold on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC), the event—aptly titled “Solid as a Rock”—serves as the centerpiece of Lauderhill’s celebration of Jamaica’s 63rd year of independence. Sizzla, known for his fiery stage presence and militant lyrics, will headline a powerful lineup of Jamaican musical luminaries. “The Jamaica Independence celebration is significant to me because it represents the fight of the people, being liberated from the slave system and being an independent country and nation,” Sizzla shared ahead of his anticipated performance.
Joining Sizzla on stage will be some of the island’s most respected voices, including the groundbreaking Lady G, soulful Etana, veteran roots singer Admiral Tibet, smooth crooner Hal Anthony, and Festival Song legend Roy Rayon. Backed by the dynamic Code Red Band, the evening promises a high-calibre musical experience rooted in cultural pride and resistance.
Keeping the energy alive throughout the evening are top-tier selectors Foota Hype, Supa Sound, DJ Fergie, and DJ Radcliffe, who will spin timeless Jamaican hits and crowd favourites. Their contributions will add a celebratory pulse to what is expected to be a vibrant gathering of music lovers, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the South Florida Jamaican community.
More than a concert, “Solid as a Rock” is poised to be a cultural milestone—an homage to Jamaica’s resilience, identity, and global influence. With Sizzla at its helm, both on stage and as an honoree, the night will undoubtedly reflect the essence of independence: liberation, unity, and the power of music to move a nation.
