Monday’s nomination day proceedings for the September 3 General Election went smoothly across all 63 constituencies.

That’s according to Director of Elections, Glasspole Brown.

One-hundred and eighty-nine candidates have been nominated to contest the September 3 polls.

The two major political parties have nominated candidates in all 63 constituencies.

The JPP nominated 47 candidates, while the UIC nominated 7. There were 9 independent candidates.

With nominations now completed, Mr Brown says the Electoral Office of Jamaica will advance preparations for the September 3 polls.

Meanwhile, Monday was also nomination day for by-elections in three divisions across the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation.

The divisions are Chancery Hall, Olympic Gardens, and Denham Town.

The Seivwright Gardens Division was also set to be contested.

But the process necessary to stage that by-election is not completed.

Mr Brown says no official proclamation was given for the division.
