Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Sean Sobers met with United States Assistant Secretary of War Joseph Humire at the Department of War in Washington D.C. on Thursday as Trinidad and Tobago and the United States discussed defence and security cooperation.
Sobers was accompanied by Permanent Secretary and Head of the Foreign Service Randall Karim during the meeting at the Pentagon.
According to a statement, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, particularly on defence and security matters.
The talks also centred on enhancing coordination between both countries and reinforcing what officials described as a longstanding partnership aimed at maintaining regional stability.
Sobers is currently in Washington for a series of high-level bilateral meetings with senior United States officials.
In a statement earlier this week, the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs said the minister’s engagements from May 13 to 15 include meetings with officials from the United States Department of State, the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the Department of Energy, the Department of War and the National Security Council.
