South Africa Eliminates Defending T20 World Cup Champions Australia

There will be new champions at this year’s ICC Women’s T 20 World Cup after South Africa defeated outgoing champions Australia by eight wickets in semi-final one in Dubai.

Australia were first restricted to 134 for 5 in their 20 overs. Beth Mooney, 44, Ellyse Perry, 31, and captain Tahlia McGrath scored most runs.

The South Africans then raced to 135 for 2 in the 18th over on the back of a superb knock from Anneke Bosch who made an unbeaten 74 and was supported by Laura Wolvaardt, 42.

The South Africans will now await the outcome of the second semi-final between the West Indies and New Zealand to know who they’ll play in Sunday’s final.

The 2016 champions, West Indies, will go into Friday’s semi-final on the back of a massive win over England this week.

Veteran cricket commentator, Joseph ‘Reds’ Perriera, believes West Indies women have the tools to go all the way and win a second world title.

Perriera says if the Windies can repeat the performance they gave against England then they should qualify for the final.
