South Africa Open ICC T20 World Cup Campaign With a Win

South Africa made a solid start to their campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup today with a 6 wicket victory over former champions Sri Lanka in the first official T20 game to be played at the newly built Eisenhower Park in New York today.

Sri Lanka elected to bat and were blown away for 77 in 19.1 overs as Anrich Nortje bagged career best 4 for 7 and Kagiso Rabada 2 for 21…only three Sri Lankan batsmen got into double figures.

South Africa then replied with 80 for 4 inside 17 overs.

Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock made 20, Heinrich Klaasen 19, Tristan Stubbs 13 and captain Aiden Markram 12.

Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets for Sri Lanka.

In the meantime, Afghanistan take on Uganda in the day’s other match at the Providence stadium, in Guyana.
