The Jamaica Labour Party has confirmed that Member of Parliament for South Manchester, Robert Chin, is the frontrunner to represent the party in South West Clarendon at the next general election.
South West Clarendon is represented in parliament by the People’s National Party’s Lothan Cousins.
Chin must await a recommendation from the party secretariat and then approval by the party’s selection committee. His fate will then ultimately be determined by the party’s central executive.
Chin is seeking a new political home after being ousted from the South Manchester seat he won in the September 2020 general elections.
This after he lost a delegates vote to businessman Ian Ives on Sunday, March 16 this year. Chin has accused Labourites in South Manchester of stabbing him in the back.
