President of Santos Football Club, Carlton ‘Spanner’ Dennis, has paid tribute to one of the club’s defensive stalwart Vernon Bell who passed away this week.
The former national player died in Ohio on Monday. He was 79-years-old.
Dennis says Bell was a master reader of the game during his playing days.
The former Santos player was also a title winning coach having won the KSAFA major league and premier league with Tivoli Gardens.
Bell, known for his tactical astuteness on the football pitch also enjoyed a successful early career in cricket when he featured for the Lucas Cricket Club.
According to Dennis, outside of his playing and coaching days, Bell was a successful businessman and someone he characterises as a gentleman.
