The Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rosanna Bricneo, is calling for communities to come together to tackle the issue of minors drowning. Last week, there were two incidents of drowning just one day apart. The first was 17-year-old Caleb Bradley, the Lord’s Bank resident who went swimming with his friends on August 20, dove into the river around three in the afternoon, and never resurfaced. His body was recovered on the morning of August 21. Later that day, the body of 13-year-old Jaden Marroquin was pulled from a lagoon in the Valley of Peace in the Cayo district. The Special Envoy says that though the incidents are not connected, both tragic losses have devastated families and left communities grieving. She says that while there may not be a readily available solution, communities should come together and find ways to help minimize the risk.
Briceno also offered her condolences to the Bradley and Marroquin families.
