Superintendent of Police Aaron Gamboa went on a tour in the Lake Independence area of Belize City today, distributing backpacks and school supplies to at-risk youth. Gamboa, the officer commanding the Special Patrol Unit, says that the initiative is a passion project, having seen the needs of the people in the community. He sourced the bags himself through private sector partners and concerned citizens who wanted to support the initiative. He distributed bags to children from known gang areas within Lake I and even got help from known figures like Hubert Baptist and Brandon “Battery” Smith.
Gamboa distributed a hundred bags, and says he intends to do more in the community, including a back-to-school haircut drive for the youths next week.
