SRP officer charged with kidnapping, assault

A Special Reserve Police Officer has been arrested and charged following investigations by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s Special Victims Department.

The part-time Special Reserve Police Constable, attached to the Moriah Police Station, was arrested on April 15, 2026 and is was expected to appear before the Tobago Assizes today. He faces charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment and common assault.

Investigators reported that on March 18, 2025, the victim, who was in a common-law relationship with the accused at the time, was walking along Village Street, Mt. St. George when the accused approached her in a motor vehicle.

Police said the accused allegedly forced the victim into the vehicle against her will and restrained her using handcuffs.

He then drove to a forested area off Dam Road, Mt. St. George, where the victim was reportedly assaulted and threatened with a cutlass. The accused later released the victim and returned her to her residence.

W/Cpl James conducted investigations and compiled a file, which was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Following legal advice, officers laid charges against the accused.

Superintendent Darryl Ramdass, ASP Avril Francis and W/Inspector Sookram-Loutan coordinated and directly supervised the operation.

DCP Natasha George, ACP Richard Smith and ACP Rishi Singh provided executive oversight.
