Two months after Senator Charles Sinclair called for Jimmy Cliff’s Somerton home to be transformed into a museum and a statue be erected in his honour, the St James Municipal Corporation has followed through in passing a resolution to erect a statue of the music icon at the entrance to Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
Councillor Damion Brown presented the resolution, at a recent meeting, citing Jimmy cliff’s achievements and contributions to brand Jamaica.
In his presentation, Councillor Brown referenced previous efforts to recognize Jimmy Cliff’s impact on St James, including the 2019 renaming of Gloucester Avenue to Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
The proposal, unanimously approved by other sitting councillors will now be sent to the Culture Ministry for review.
