St James Municipal Corporation Not Green or Orange – Mayor

The St James Municipal Corporation is neither green nor orange.

That’s the word from Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon amid the corporation’s ongoing enforcement of rules governing the posting of political campaign signs across the parish.

His comment comes against the background of a legal row between the corporation and some members of the Opposition People’s National Party, PNP.

PNP caretaker for St James West Central Andre Haughton took the corporation to court for removing some of his campaign posters.

The Supreme Court granted an injunction in the case, barring the corporation from removing the signs.

But in a video posted to social media on Tuesday, Mayor Vernon says the aspirant violated the injunction by erecting a poster in revenue generating areas.

The video was accompanied by a copy of what appears to be a receipt bearing Haughton’s name.

Vernon says the payment means order has been restored.
