Family, friends, political leaders and hundreds of mourners gathered today at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral in Belize City to bid a final farewell to Evalee Skeen-Engleton. The historic cathedral was filled to capacity, with dozens of mourners standing outside on the church grounds as they joined in paying their final respects to Skeen-Engleton, who served as Deputy Secretary General of the United Democratic Party and was also Chairperson and a member of the St. George’s Caye Day Society. Among those in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, Interim Minister of Home Affairs Julius Espat, members of the UDP’s national leadership, party supporters, close friends, and relatives who came together to celebrate a life remembered for service, friendship and dedication. According to Espat, he attended the funeral as a longtime family friend.
As for the Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, he too is a close family friend. The funeral also brought together both the high and lower ranks of the UDP, with current and former party officials, constituency representatives, activists and supporters filling the pews alongside members of the wider community in a show of unity and respect for one of the party’s longtime organizers./
