PAISLEY, United Kingdom (CMC):

JAMAICAN INTERNATIONAL defender Richard King has sealed a transfer to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren FC, the club confirmed yesterday.

The 23-year-old former Cavalier SC captain has signed a contract until 2027, with the option for an additional year.

King, who boasts 30 caps for the Reggae Boyz, attracted interest from clubs across the UK and Europe but has opted to join St Mirren, becoming their third signing ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Manager Stephen Robinson hailed the acquisition, stating that King will be a “really good asset” for the club.

The Northern Irish boss revealed that St Mirren had been monitoring the Jamaican defender for some time.

“We’ve tracked Richard for a long time and kept up with his progress. He’s quick, he’s strong, and he’s a project for us as well. It’s a step up in level for him. We believe he can be a really good asset for the football club when he returns from the Concacaf Gold Cup.”

Robinson also emphasised that King’s arrival would bolster competition in defence.

“He will bring real competition to the boys we’ve already got and give us another strong option in that department.”

Kings is expected to be in action on Friday when the Reggae Boyz take on Guadeloupe in their second Concacaf Gold Cup fixture.
