Stabbing Victim Forgives Nephew, Court Orders $8K Fine

Dwayne Sutherland Jr. was fined and ordered to pay compensation today after his uncle, Russell Anthony, forgave him for a stabbing incident back in August 2023. Sutherland Jr. initially faced an attempted murder charge but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of use of deadly means of harm. Justice Nigel Pilgrim ordered him to pay a $4,000 fine and $4,000 in compensation to his uncle by December 19, 2028, or face 12 months in prison. The backstory is that on August 19, 2023, at a family gathering in Lemonal Village, Sutherland Jr. got into an argument with his uncle Russell over the number of sheep he owned. Sutherland Jr. then allegedly hit his uncle with a glass bottle before returning with a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen. Russell Anthony, who sustained a wound, has since forgiven his nephew and expressed a desire to mend their family bond.
