State-Run Boledo Delivers $16 Million Profit in First Year

Prime Minister John Briceño has announced a major revenue milestone following the Government’s takeover of the Boledo and Sunday Lottery. According to the PM, the state-managed lottery has generated over 16 million dollars in profit within a 12-month period.  Government officially assumed control of the national gaming operations on November 14, 2023, after the previous private contract was terminated. Since then, the Prime Minister says the returns have vindicated the administration’s decision to bring the lottery back under public ownership.  He explained that the revenue performance reflects stronger oversight, improved compliance, and the elimination of leakages that had previously affected the system.

John Briceño, Prime Minister: “I take great pride to report that this first 12 months, April 2024 to March 2025, we earned $16,704,154. In the first few months of its operation in 2024 it did $5.8 million. At that time when they were paying, they started off with $2 million and then the second contract they took it up to $2.5 million. In the first 12 months of the financial operations of Fu We Boledo, Madam Speaker, the revenues that we had was $123.2 million was sold and we paid up $105 million back to the Belizean people. After expenses for the people of this country, this government took back the Boledo. We decided that this Boledo have to come back to the people and so we took our time to ensure that you know they’re coming with the lawsuits and make sure that we do it properly. Fu We Boledo is projected that by the end of March of next year, for this second year that we have a full year of operations, it is projected to have profits of way over $20 million.”

The Prime Minister added that these earnings are now returned directly to the Belizean people through the Consolidated Revenue Fund, helping to support national programs, primarily the National Health Insurance scheme.
