Stock market closed for second day due to Melissa

The stock market remains closed for a second day as the effects of Hurricane Melissa continue to be felt across Jamaica.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange said in an advisory that no trading would take place on the market today. The market was also closed on Monday.

The foreign exchange market was active on Monday, with the Jamaican dollar trading at $161.01 against the US dollar. On Friday, the dollar traded at $161.38.

During the stock exchange’s last day of trading, on Friday, the market closed up 1.06 per cent, as Jamaicans were battening down for the storm. The JSE Combined Index closed at 334,491 on the day.
