National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year winner, Roje Stona and Shanieka Ricketts will be among the honorees at the Queens/Grace Jackson Meet at the National Stadium, on Saturday.
Stona produced an Olympic record 70 metres in the men’s discus to win the country’s first goal medal in the event, while Ricketts produced a season’s best 14-point-87-metres to take the silver medal in the women’s triple jump in Paris.
Chairman of the organizing committee, Olive McNaughton, says Stona and Ricketts were chosen because of their stellar performances in 2024.
McNaughton says the meet which is in its 23rd year has helped to nurture several od Jamaica’s standout athletes.
