Swaby Rejects Resignation Calls

Kingston’s mayor, Andrew Swaby, is rejecting calls for his resignation.

The call came last week from chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, communications taskforce, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley.

Senator Fitz-Henley says Mayor Swaby’s prominence in the corruption scandal at the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, which involves the alleged use of taxpayers money to fund political campaigns, is enough to trigger his resignation.

But speaking in East Central St. Andrew on Sunday, Mayor Swaby says now is not the time to walk away as everyone agrees he’s been doing a “damn good job”.

Mayor Swaby is alleging that the JLP could use its influence to have People’s National Party officials and supporters locked up in their bid to remain in power.
