Road safety and enhanced air connectivity were the key topics when Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Eli Zakour met with Australian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Sonya Koppe on Wednesday.
The talks, held at the ministry’s head office, focused on strategies to safeguard road users, reduce traffic accidents, and encourage responsible driving.
Both parties agreed on the need for stronger public education, strict enforcement measures, and initiatives to foster a culture of compliance among motorists and pedestrians.
Discussions also explored the potential establishment of an Air Services Agreement between Trinidad and Tobago and Australia. Such an agreement would open new avenues for trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange, while boosting global connectivity between the two nations, the ministry said.
Minister Zakour was joined by senior ministry officials, while High Commissioner Koppe was accompanied by Erin Hackshaw, Policy and Research Officer at the Australian High Commission.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to advance the nation’s transport and aviation sectors, align with global best practices, and position Trinidad and Tobago as a competitive player in the global marketplace.
