Trinidad and Tobago is celebrating one of its own as Damian Marcano, the Trinidad-born filmmaker and storyteller, has been awarded an Emmy as Co-Executive Producer of “The Pitt”, marking a powerful new milestone in his already impactful career.
Marcano’s win is more than just a personal triumph—it’s a moment of pride for the Caribbean creative community. Born in Morvant, Trinidad, and later based between the Caribbean and the United States, Marcano has long been known for bringing authentic, culturally rich narratives to the screen. His work often centers on the complexities, resilience, and vibrancy of Caribbean life, offering a perspective rarely seen in mainstream media.
Before “The Pitt”, Marcano made waves with his award-winning feature “God Loves the Fighter”, a striking and unflinching portrait of life in Port of Spain’s overlooked communities. The film was celebrated at international festivals for its bold storytelling and visual poetry, establishing Marcano as a powerful new voice in cinema. He continued to build an impressive portfolio, directing episodes for acclaimed series such as “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” “Snowfall,” and “American Gods,” where his visual style and character-driven approach earned widespread praise.
His awards record includes winning the SXSW Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Award in 2022 for “Chee$e”, a film he also directed and wrote. “Chee$e” was furthermore nominated for Best Diaspora Narrative Feature at the African Movie Academy Awards, and received recognition at the La Roche-sur-Yon International Film Festival.
Marcano’s filmography reveals a versatility spanning shorts, features, and episodic television. He also directed Giants (2015), a short film about young immigrant children in the Netherlands.
On the TV side, Marcano has credits directing for acclaimed series such as “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” “Snowfall” (“Lions”, 2022) and “Boomerang” (“Insatiable”, 2019), among others.
His work is distinguished not only by awards and nominations but by the depth of character, setting, and cultural specificity. With The Pitt’s Emmy win, Marcano continues a trajectory that bridges Caribbean origins and global storytelling, affirming that powerful narratives, when done with authenticity and craft, resonate widely.
With “The Pitt”, Marcano brought his signature depth and vision to the production team, helping shape a series that has resonated with audiences for its grit, emotional power, and layered storytelling. His Emmy win cements his reputation as a creative force capable of shaping prestige television while staying rooted in his cultural identity.
For Marcano, this moment signals not just personal success but the growing global influence of Caribbean artists. His journey—from the streets of Morvant to Hollywood’s biggest stages—is inspiring a new generation of Caribbean storytellers to believe that their voices, too, can reach the world.
As he celebrates this milestone, Damian Marcano continues to champion stories that amplify underrepresented voices, proving that where you come from can be the very power that propels you to the top.
