The Met Office has issued a Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert from 9:20 am today, Sunday August 24, until 5:00 pm.
The alert warns of a high chance (70%) of isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms associated with the passage of a tropical wave located near 56W to 57W this morning. The most impactful weather is expected over eastern Trinidad and Tobago from as early as 10 am.
According to the Met Office, impacts may include:
● Temporary traffic disruptions
● Street and flash flooding
● Localised ponding
● Gusty winds near heavy downpours, which may topple unstable trees, displace loose items, and agitate seas
● Landslips in vulnerable areas
Officials note that these conditions are not expected to be continuous throughout the period.
The public is advised to secure loose outdoor items, take necessary precautions, and avoid entering flood waters.
