Taiwan Marks Double Ten Day in Belize with Celebration of Friendship and Democracy

Today our Taiwanese friends in Belize celebrate their Double Ten, the 114th Anniversary of their national day. Double Ten Day is more than just a holiday for Taiwanese; it’s a celebration of their history, democracy and identity. Last night, the Taiwanese Embassy hosted their annual Double Ten reception. That’s where we met Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize, her excellency Lily Li- Wen- Hsu.

Who spoke of the enduring friendship between Belize and Taiwan.

H.E. Lily Li-Wen Hsu, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize:When we are partners, we work with each other, we help each other.  Like in the international arena, Belize always speaks up for Taiwan because Belize stands for principle. So Belize knows that Taiwan is being treated not so fairly in the international arena.  And Belize, although not a big country, but speaks volume, really speak loud and clear and speaks for Taiwan.  And for us, we share our development experience, our experience and  the lesson we learned of our development journey that we share with our Belizean friends.  So, we have our technical mission here in Belize. We work with them in different projects in line with Belize’s priority for development.”

During the celebration, Belize’s former ambassador to Taiwan, Candice Pitts was recognized for her distinguished ambassadorial service to the government and people of Taiwan with the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon.

Candice Pitts, former Ambassador of Belize to the Republic of China (Taiwan):This recognition, this honor is to really highlight the contributions that ambassadors make to the diplomatic relations between Belize and Taiwan. And so, the government of Taiwan has been appreciative of the contributions that the Embassy of Belize under my tenure for the four years and five years has made to maintaining and strengthening diplomatic relations between Belize and Taiwan. My tenure in Taiwan afforded me and afforded Belize the opportunity for us to explore possibilities of strengthening, of augmenting diplomatic relations in areas such as education, in cultural promotion, in tourism promotion, in trade and investment.”
