Taiwan Plans to Help Belize Introduce Electric Buses

As public transportation measures come before the House, Taiwan has announced plans to help Belize introduce electric buses. According to a Radio Taiwan International report citing an October 1 release from Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung made the announcement during his recently concluded visit to Belize. Taiwan also intends to help Belize become part of the regional electric bus supply chain.  Lin led more than thirty business representatives from sectors including renewable energy, smart technology and healthcare. The visit included investment seminars and the signing of memoranda of understanding to promote business exchanges and cooperation. He also met with Governor-General Froyla Tzalam, Prime Minister John Briceño and Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca.  The report also highlighted growth in trade since the Taiwan-Belize Economic Cooperation Agreement took effect in 2022. Lin said Taiwan’s imports of Belizean shrimp increased by more than two hundred percent in 2026. He reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening economic ties through cooperation between governments and businesses. Taiwan has previously supported the introduction of electric buses in fellow diplomatic allies Palau and Paraguay.
