Tax Administration Jamaica, TAJ, says effective September 1, 2025, it will no longer accept cheques as a method of payment for taxes and other public monies, except in certain circumstances.
These are where a valid cheque is issued by another ministry, department, or public body or where a valid manager’s cheque is issued by a local licensed commercial bank regulated by the Bank of Jamaica.
The TAJ says the policy shift is part of the authority’s continued efforts to modernise its operations, strengthen risk management, and enhance the efficiency, security and reliability of its payment processes.
With this new policy, customers are being encouraged to use other available payment options.
The authority says these include logging on to the tax portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and use a valid debit or credit card, using the direct funds transfer, NCB Online Banking or Scotia Online.
The TAJ says for assistance with any of the alternative payment methods, taxpayers can call the customer care centre toll-free at 888-TAX-HELP, that’s 888-829-4357 or send an email to taxhelp@taj.gov.jm.
