Talent Scouts Could Return West Indies to Global Dominance

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy believes the key to the region’s return to global cricketing dominance lies in the hands of its talent scouts.

Sammy said the desire to reign once more on the international stage must begin with a clear, aligned pathway starting at regional cricket.

With the expertise of Jamal Smith and Avenesh Seetaram, we showed the talent IDs what is required to be on par with the rest of the world,” Sammy said.

The three-day workshop, held from May 8–10 during the West Indies Breakout League, brought together six Territorial Talent Identifiers from across the Caribbean.

They were joined by Sammy and key High-Performance personnel, including High Performance Manager Dwain Gill, Senior Talent Manager Jamal Smith, and CWI Performance Analyst Avenesh Seetaram.

Sammy described the initiative as a critical move by Cricket West Indies to align the principles of the international team with talent development at the grassroots and territorial levels.

Over the course of the workshop, TTIs engaged in sessions designed to deepen their understanding of the data, planning, and tactical frameworks that guide West Indies team selection. Sammy said the sessions offered a clear template for TTIs to adopt in their home territories.
