JAMAICA’S CHRISTOPHER Taylor will be taking another shot at qualifying for the World Athletics Championships when he lines up in the 200 metres at the eighth International Wieslaw Maniak Memorial track and field meet in Szczecin, Poland.
The World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet will also offer opportunities to Jevaughn Powell and Delano Kennedy, who are also short of the the World Championships automatic qualification standard.
Runner-up at the National Senior Championships in 20.28 seconds, Taylor —who failed on one occasion after Trials — will be hoping to hit the qualifying mark of 20.16.
Three other Jamaicans, led by Bryan Levell, will join Taylor in the half-lap event.
Levell, the national champion who won in 20.10, is coming off excellent form in Austria, where he clocked a personal best 9.82 to win the 100 metres — the second-fastest Jamaican and third-best in the world so far this season.
Kadrian Goldson, with a season best of 20.57, and Travis Williams, with a best of 20.86, are also down to contest the event.
Goldson and Williams will also be in action in the 100m. Fourth-place finisher at the National Senior Championships, Ryiem Forde — who has a season’s best of 9.98 — and the in-form Odaine McPherson, with a season best of 10.07 and three straight wins on the European circuit, will also face the starter over the shortest sprint.
Kennedy and Powell, second- and third-place finishers in the men’s 400 at the National Senior Championships, respecitively, will also get another shot at the qualifyication standard of 44.85. Kennedy clocked 44.90 while Powell ended in 44.91 at Trials. They will be joined by former national champion Demish Gaye, who will be hoping to improve on his modest season’s best of 45.92.
Candice McLeod, the lone Jamaican female at the meet, will contest the women’s 400m as she looks to improve on her season’s best of 51.92.
