Teen Remanded on Attempted Murder Charges in Weekend Shooting

An eighteen-year-old Ladyville resident has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being charged in connection with the weekend shooting of 29-year-old Kenton Jarvis Young. Adam Abraham Reynolds, a labourer from the Vista del Mar area, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. He was read three indictable charges: attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. The allegations arise from a shooting shortly after ten o’clock on Saturday night, July 18, near the Muzzle Creek Bridge in Scotland Halfmoon Village.  Police say Young, a caretaker from Bermudian Landing, was driving home from the direction of Burrell Boom when two men on a black dirt bike reportedly approached his SUV from behind. Several shots were allegedly fired at the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and enter nearby bushes.  Responding officers reportedly found the blue SUV with several apparent bullet holes on its driver’s side. Young sustained multiple gunshot injuries, including wounds to his abdomen, nose, right hand, wrist and elbow. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where police described his condition as stable but critical.  Investigators reportedly recovered several nine-millimetre expended shells and collected suspected blood samples from the scene.  Reynolds was subsequently detained and formally charged on Wednesday. Police say he declined to give an interview when offered the opportunity in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.  No plea was taken because the charges are indictable. Due to the nature of the offences, the Magistrate’s Court could not offer bail, and Reynolds was remanded until September 23./
