An 18-year-old Claxton Bay man is in critical condition after he was stabbed by a stranger during a confrontation at his home early on Saturday morning.

Police said the man came to the assistance of a female relative who confronted a stranger about throwing stones at the house.

As the man asked the stranger to leave the property, he was stabbed once in the left side of his chest, as the suspect ran away.

An ambulance was called in which took the wounded teen to the Couva Accident and Emergency Hospital where he was treated and transferred to another facility for emergency surgery.

Couva police later arrested a 25-year-old suspect in the area as part of enquiries into the stabbing.

Hours earlier on Friday night, a 15-year-old boy was walking along Walke Street, Sangre Grande when he was confronted by two bandits.

One of the men asked to borrow his cellphone to make a call, but the boy refused.

The bandit then pulled out a gun and demanded the phone, but the boy refused again.

The bandit then threatened to beat him with the gun, as he snatched the cellphone and demanded the password.

Both bandits then fled the scene.
Officers of the Sangre Grande CID are continuing enquiries.
