Condescension towards the media was ripe this morning during the UDP’s press conference, particularly when questions turned to the party’s timeline for selecting candidates ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. The tense exchange unfolded after members of the media pressed UDP Secretary General Sheena Pitts on when the party intends to officially field names for the March 2027 municipal race. Rather than providing a direct timeline, Pitts pushed back at the questioning, with a comparison on whether the same question has been made to the PUP.

Sheena Pitts, UDP Chairman: “Can I ask? Just because I like a little mischief sometimes. We asked the PUP that question yet ? Do we know ?”
Reporter: They have names floating around already.
Sheena Pitts, UDP Chairman: “And since attending this press conference, have you noticed anything about names floating around? But in this press conference, did you not realize that there is a foreshadowing? Right? And so my response to you dear, that the UDP gearing up like you said, and we’re ready and the names are being floated around. However, we are a party that strikes when the iron is hot. And so as much as I want you to poke me and get me to act when you’re ready, we will do so after we have all our ducks in a row and we’re ready to do so strategically in each municipality.”
Reporter: What do you make of the mayor endorsing his son in law as his successor ?
Sheena Pitts, UDP Chairman: “How is that my concern? I cannot be bothered about the mayor, his son-in-law, his daughter in law, his any in law. You know what my concern is? The UDP and who or mayoral candidate will be and our slate, ‘cause you know why? No, care who he endorsed, we are coming for their necks. We are in the business of winning. Let him go atop the mountain and endorse his son-in-law. Let the PUP continue to fight because they want Allan Pollard and not the sudden law or so I hear. But on this side, can’t bother with their noise, we focus on our win and our strategy.”
While the party has not officially announced its slate of municipal candidates, political discussions within both major parties have already intensified as attention begins shifting toward the 2027 municipal elections.
