In related news, there is cautious relief among some transportation workers tonight after one terminal employee reported that staff are no longer being asked to resign amid the ongoing transition to the National Bus Company framework. The development follows a recent meeting between terminal workers and senior government officials, where concerns about job security and employment terms were raised. One worker who attended the discussions told Love News that the tone of the engagement has shifted positively. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the employee said workers were reassured that resignation is no longer being presented as the only path forward.
Unidentified Bus Worker: “The meeting was about the rumors that were going around about resigning those kinds of stuff. But now the meeting we went in this morning was saying that there is no such thing as resign and apply over. Now we have a choice either we choose to stay in the government and work with the government or we can stay and work with the National Bus Company, it’s our choice. So in the meeting they didn’t say anything about resign and apply over. No they made that clear. That if you choose to stay with the government it’s that, if you choose to go with the National Bus Company then you have a job there. To be honest I feel much better. I’m really satisfied with today’s outcome because the first rumors when they said that we need to resign and apply over then automatically I was thinking how will I finish paying for my loan, how will I finish paying for my house because I was gifted with one of the government houses so that was my worry. So after today when they explained that to me I won’t tell you guys a lie those people gave me a calm pill. So now I just hope that they hold their end of the bargain and find us put us somewhere else to work because at the end of the day we do have kids, we do have bills to take care of to be without a job.”
Reporter: So earlier this week where did you hear those reports that you would have to resign ? Where did you hear that ?
Unidentified Bus Worker: “Okay well in this week here one of the workers that work in the department she always comes and sits, she takes care of the cash and stuff and she came over and she was the one that broke that information to us that well not to all of us but to one specific person and then he was the one that came and told us that Ms.Hill said that you will need to resign and apply over for the job and that is where we got it but before she came and told us that, the rumors were already out there.”
The worker noted that while some uncertainty remains, the updated position from officials has eased immediate fears among staff at the terminal.
