The Marley Family Special Brand of Cannabis Announced by Daughter of Bob

The Marley family has unveiled a new cannabis collection inspired by the cultural and spiritual legacy of reggae legend Bob Marley, introducing two specially developed cannabis seed varieties that blend Jamaica’s rich agricultural heritage with modern cultivation techniques.

The project, created in partnership with California-based Humboldt Seed Company, marks years of collaboration involving Jamaican farmers, members of the Rastafari community, and researchers from the University of the West Indies (UWI). The initiative aims to preserve traditional Jamaican cannabis genetics while introducing them to a new generation of growers around the world.

Leading the launch is Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s eldest daughter and Chief Executive Officer of the Bob Marley Group of Companies, who said the collaboration represents far more than a commercial venture.

“Growing up around my father’s legacy and the Rastafari faith, herb was never viewed through the same lens that much of the world saw it,” Cedella said. “For Rastafari, herb has always been more than a product. It carries spiritual and cultural significance that deserves respect and understanding.”

The collection features two new cultivars, One Love and Redemption, named after two of Bob Marley’s most enduring songs and messages. According to the developers, the strains were designed to reflect the characteristics of the traditional Jamaican cannabis varieties associated with Marley during the 1970s while incorporating modern breeding techniques to improve quality, consistency, and cultivation performance.

The project traces its origins to 2017, when Humboldt Seed Company began working alongside Jamaican agricultural experts, scientists, and local cultivators to identify and preserve heirloom cannabis genetics. The effort included extensive field research in Jamaica, where breeders collaborated with Rastafari farmers and botanists to ensure the new varieties remained rooted in the island’s cannabis heritage.

For the Marley family, the release represents an opportunity to celebrate Bob Marley’s enduring connection to Jamaica, community, and Rastafari culture.

“For our family, seeing these seeds come back is deeply emotional,” Cedella said. “It’s about preserving a piece of Jamaica’s heritage and honoring my father’s legacy.”

She added that One Love and Redemption were intentionally chosen because they embody the themes of unity, resilience, hope, and redemption that defined her father’s music and message.

“When it came to choosing these two strains, we wanted something that reflected both my father’s spirit and the values that have always guided our family,” she explained. “They represent more than a product, they represent a message, a culture, and a legacy.”

Benjamin Lind, co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Humboldt Seed Company, described the collaboration as a unique effort to bridge Jamaica’s traditional cannabis culture with modern horticultural science.

“The seeds themselves are a time capsule,” Lind said. “They maintain the essence of the Jamaican heirloom varieties that Bob himself would have smoked while being adapted for today’s modern market.”

The launch builds upon the Marley family’s longstanding involvement in the legal cannabis industry through various ventures, while continuing to emphasize the cultural, medicinal, and spiritual significance of cannabis within the Rastafari faith, a connection Bob Marley helped introduce to audiences around the world through his music and advocacy.

More than four decades after his passing, Bob Marley’s influence continues to extend beyond reggae, with the new collection serving as another chapter in preserving his legacy while celebrating Jamaica’s contribution to global cannabis culture.
