Three Men Charged in January Murder of Ladyville Construction Worker

Police have formally arrested and charged three men in connection with the January 25 murder of 29-year-old construction worker Elroy Edward Bainton of Yellowtail Street, Ladyville.  Authorities say that on February 14, Izaiah Nigel Beeks and Camryn Lozano were jointly charged for the crime of murder along with Caryl Rodas as investigators continue to build their case.  ASP Stacy Smith provided an update on the investigation.

The charge against the trio stems from one of two fatal shootings that occurred within minutes of each other in Ladyville, incidents police believe are directly connected.  The first shooting happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Joe Lewis Road where 26-year-old Shakeem Ferguson was shot multiple times as he rode back home on a bicycle. He later died at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Approximately thirteen minutes later, police responded to another shooting on Yellowtail Street, where Bainton was approached by a gunman with a covered face who opened fire. Bainton attempted to escape by running into a nearby yard and jumping a fence but collapsed and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.  Investigators say both men had been together earlier that evening and believe the same group of suspects carried out both attacks, reportedly following Ferguson first and then returning to target Bainton. Police have indicated the murders may stem from an internal dispute involving a Ladyville-based group.
