TikTok Rolls Out New Songwriter Feature, Shining a Spotlight on the Creatives Behind Your Favourite Hits

A bold new feature on TikTok is turning the spotlight on the behind-the-scenes hitmakers of the music world: songwriters. The platform has unveiled Songwriter Features, a suite of tools designed to elevate songwriting talent by giving creators their own Songwriter Account and a dedicated Songwriter Tab. These additions allow songwriters to publicly showcase the tracks they’ve written or co-written, putting their work front and center for fans to explore alongside their content.

Currently in beta, the rollout includes support from top-tier publishing partners like Warner Chappell Music, Kobalt Music, Reservoir Media, and Sentric. The move signals TikTok’s deeper integration into the music industry, not just as a platform for viral clips but as a serious player in music discovery and career development. “This marks a significant step toward boosting songwriter visibility on TikTok,” said Laura Willoughby, Director of Global Creative Services at Warner Chappell.

The update arrives at a moment when audiences are becoming increasingly curious about the people behind the music. Derek Cournoyer, SVP of Global Digital Business at Kobalt Music, noted the cultural shift: “Fans are increasingly fascinated not only with the artists they follow, but also with how songs are written, who’s behind them, and the creative journey that brings them to life.” Songwriters like KOLE, known for her work with Kelly Clarkson and Meghan Trainor, praised the feature’s power to reach new fans organically via TikTok’s For You Page.

TikTok has been steadily weaving itself into the fabric of the music industry. The Songwriter Features join a growing portfolio of music tools, including the Add to Music App function (which connects TikTok to streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music), in-app album experiences, and TikTok for Artists, an analytics platform now live in 26 countries. These strategic moves underline the company’s ambition to be more than just a content-sharing app—it’s positioning itself as a critical link in music promotion and artist development.

“TikTok is unique in its ability to offer songwriters a way to highlight their musical works alongside their own content,” said Jordan Lowy, Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnerships. “It helps them tell stories about their music, their craft, and their lives.” With this latest push, TikTok isn’t just celebrating viral tracks—it’s finally giving long-overdue credit to the creators behind the hits.
