Tina Clayton of MVP Track Club, a second-place finisher at the recent Doha Diamond League, maintained her good form in the women’s 100 metres at Saturday’s JAAA World Athletics Championships Preparation Meet inside the National Stadium.
Clayton won her heat in 11.16 seconds to register the fastest female time of the day over the distance.
Tina, who was second in Doha to her twin sister Tia, who ran a world-leading 10.92, had no difficulty on Saturday, cruising to an easy win. Edwin Allen High’s Alexxe Henry of Trinidad and Tobago, who anchored her team to victory in the 4x100m at last month’s Penn Relays, finished second in 11.45 with Barbadian Kishawna Niles of the University of Technology third in 11.52.
After a nippy 10.03 in winning his heat in the men’s 100m, expectations were high for a special performance from MVP’s Kishane Thompson in the final. However, the Olympic Games silver medallist failed to show for the final. The SprinTec duo of Odaine McPherson (10.39) and Kadrian Goldson (10.41) took first and second, respectively, with veteran Tyquendo Tracy third in 10.46.
Returning to competition after his two-year anti-doping suspension, Christopher Taylor showed little rust as he cruised to an easy win in his heat of the men’s 400m in 45.66, the fastest time on the day in the event. Delano Kennedy (45.72) of Uptimum Performance and Demish Gaye (46.05) of SprinTec were second- and third-best, respectively.
In the women’s 400m it was Barbados’ Sada Williams who shone brightest, as the MVP athlete stopped the clock at 51.71. National senior representatives Candice McLeod (52.44) and Roneisha McGregor (52.67) ended second and third, respectively.
In the sprint hurdles, Shimayra Williams of Elite Performance won the women’s senior 100m in 13.29, while Edwin Allen’s Santae Wilson won among the juniors in 13.73. Odario Phillips of MVP captured the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.58.
Other winners on the day included Kelly Ann Beckford in the women’s 800m (2:02.46), Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High in the women’s 200m (23.43), Tyrece Hyman of Titans Club in the men’s 400m hurdles (50.10), and Fedrick Dacres in the men’s discus with a throw of 65.44m.
