With just three weeks to go before Guyana’s General and Regional Elections, the Tourism & Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) is appealing to political parties, stakeholders, and citizens to commit to peace, tolerance, and national unity during this crucial period.

In a statement issued Thursday, THAG noted that elections often stir heightened emotions and tensions, making restraint and maturity especially important. The Association is urging Guyanese to de-escalate potential conflicts in homes, communities, and workplaces, and to focus on ensuring the country remains safe and welcoming for all.
“Let us work together to ensure that Guyana remains a safe and welcoming destination—for ourselves and for all visitors, whether they are here for business or leisure,” the statement read.
The appeal comes as the nation prepares for the September 1 polls and looks ahead to another historic milestone: the 60th anniversary of independence in 2026. Planning for the celebrations is already underway, with some hotels fully booked and tour operators designing special experiences for visitors.
According to THAG, the success of these events—and the tourism industry overall—will depend on Guyana’s ability to maintain peace and stability before and after the elections.
“Let peace be our priority. Let unity be our strength. Let 2026 be our celebration,” the Association urged.
As anticipation builds for both the elections and the upcoming anniversary, THAG’s message underscores that the country’s greatest strength lies in its people’s capacity to come together during pivotal moments.
