Passionate and high-energy tourism events and social media/PR director Steven Pottinger has died. He was 56.
Steven’s mother, Norma Thomas, confirmed that her beloved son died at Medical Associates in Kingston on Sunday night after a prolonged illness.
Pottinger contributed nearly 40 years to Jamaica’s tourism industry, joining the Sandals group almost immediately after graduating from Calabar High School.
He later joined SuperClubs where he became a legend at Hedonism, working at both Hedonism 11 in Negril and Hedonism 111 in Runaway Bay, driving a number of international events, magazine photo shoots, videos, fashion and other promotional efforts for the resorts.
“His passing is a tremendous loss to the industry,” said Sophia Haughton Perrin, a former colleague at SuperClubs. “He was always enthusiastic about work, and was always as kind and caring towards guests as he was towards his colleagues. I remember him managing multiple projects, zipping around the resort in his signature black jacket, and always wearing a welcoming smile.”
