Transport Ministry Denies Claims of Bus Terminal Office Evictions

The Ministry of Transportation has rejected claims that Transport Department officers are being evicted from bus terminals across the country by the National Bus Company, NBC. The allegation was circulated by the Guardian Newspaper, which claimed that officers stationed at the Corozal and Belize City bus terminals had been told they would have to relocate because NBC now owns the buildings where they operate.  But Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Transport, Chester Williams, says that report is not true. In a text response to Love News, Williams explained that the Department of Transport is expanding its services countrywide and the current office spaces at several terminal buildings are no longer adequate.  According to Williams, congestion has become a major concern, particularly as the department grows and more members of the public access its services. He says the ministry is therefore planning to relocate Transport Department offices in Dangriga, Belize City and Corozal to more suitable locations.  Williams says the move is not being driven by an eviction, but by the need to improve service delivery.
