Trial of Accused Killer Elmer Nah Delayed Again Over Prison Injury Claim

Another adjournment occurred today in the trial of accused murderer and former cop, Elmer Nah.  He was taken to court under heavy police guard to appear in a court session; however, what was expected to be the continuation of a voir dire turned out to be the opposite. Our newsroom understands that Dr. Lynden Jones, Nah’s attorney, informed the court after speaking with his client, he was suffering from an injury to his left eye, which he sustained while at the Belize Central Prison. Jones explained off-camera that, according to Nah, he was pepper-sprayed after allegedly witnessing security beating another prisoner, and he apparently scolded them about their behavior. With no objection from the prosecution, the adjournment was granted, and the court ordered that he seek medical attention. Justice Nigel Pilgrim stated quote, “The court’s primary duty is to make sure the defendant gets a fair trial and highlighted that the prisoner had a right to follow his case both orally and visually.” Nah was escorted to the Western Regional Hospital for treatment before travelling back to prison.

The prosecution told the court that they anticipate being able to close their case by next week, having five witnesses remaining to testify.
