Veteran cricket commentator, Joseph ‘Reds’ Perriera, says sporting officials in Trinidad and Tobago are breathing a sigh of relief after they were assured that they’ll be able to plan and execute various competitions despite a nationwide state of emergency.
Authorities in the twin island republic imposed the state of emergency on Monday following a spate of recent killings linked to gang violence.
The move followed what a local official dubbed an outbreak of gang violence over the weekend that saw multiple people shot dead in public areas.
Authorities believe the brazen tit-for-tat shootings are between rival gangs seeking to expand territory in the capital city, Port of Spain.
Perriera says the state of emergency will have limited impact on movement in Trinidad and Tobago.
