The PNP and their prospective candidates view themselves as better than the citizens of Jamaica, who they are asking to give them the chance to access political power.
That’s the view of MP for West Central St. Catherine, the JLP’s Dr. Christopher Tufton, as he reacted to a recent comment from PNP caretaker for West Central St. James, Dr. Andre Haughton.
In a recent interview, Dr. Haughton says he’s happy to downgrade himself in order to win political office and help to advance the Jamaican people.
He made the comment in an interview with Tamara McKayle.
The comment has irked Dr. Tufton.
In a statement on Monday, the country’s Health Minister says Dr. Haughton’s remark is troubling.
According to Dr. Tufton, the statement is a reflection of the PNP’s condescending attitude towards the Jamaican people.
Meanwhile Dr. Tufton says the constant use of the term crisis by the Opposition PNP to describe the state of affairs in the health sector is a clear sign of desperation ahead of the general election.
Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr Alfred Dawes has cited a range of issues that according to him prove the sector is in crisis.
Among these is premature infant deaths, staff burnout, underutilised operating theatres, overcrowded Accident and Emergency Departments and understaffed clinics.
But speaking at a gospel concert put on by the JLP constituency organisation in both East and West Portland, Minister Tufton says Dr. Dawes has no credibility.
