Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says Jamaicans should be wary of narratives claiming the country is heading in the wrong direction.
He was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony for the new University Hospital of the West Indies medical tower in St. Andrew on Thursday.
The six-storey facility is expected to result in the expansion of service to Jamaicans.
The medical tower will house advanced diagnostic and imaging centres, expanded emergency and critical care facilities, modern surgical suites, comfortable patient rooms, spaces for medical education and research and areas for family support and wellness.
In June, the Health and Wellness Minister also disclosed that lands had been identified for the construction of a new Kingston Public hospital.
He also announced that lands have been identified to build a new hospital in Bernard Lodge in St. Catherine.
Minister Tufton says over the nine years of the Holness administration, they’ve managed several health crises, while maintaining the strategic direction to transform the sector.
Meanwhile, Minister Tufton says improvements in compassionate care must accompany the government’s build-out of better health infrastructure.
