Several residents of the Stann Creek District are now official landowners after a special land title distribution ceremony held last night in the Dangriga area. A total of twenty-seven land titles were handed over to long-time occupants of the Airstrip area, a community where families have lived for years without formal ownership documents. The regularization process now gives residents legal security over the property they have occupied and developed over time. Among the recipients was Louise Palacio, who said the moment was emotional after years of uncertainty about her housing situation.
Area Representative for Dangriga, Dr. Louis Zabaneh, attended the ceremony along with Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining Cordel Hyde and PUP Chairman Henry Usher. Zabaneh explained that the titles represent government’s effort to bring dignity and stability to families who have waited years for formal recognition of their homes.
Officials say the Airstrip area regularization programme is intended to give residents access to legal ownership, improve access to financing, and support community development now that occupants can formally invest in their property.
