Two suspects were arrested following a report of robbery with violence and two firearms seized during anti-crime exercises carried out by police on Monday.

The two suspects were arrested in St. Joseph, after robbing a 41-year-old of a quantity of valuables.

Reports indicate that the victim was seated in his vehicle around 12:50 am on Monday (July 21, 2025), when he was approached by two men who announced a robbery.  One of the men was armed with a gun.

The victim alleges the robbers dealt him several blows about the body before they relieved him of a quantity of jewellery.

An off-duty soldier who witnessed the incident is reported to have drawn his service pistol and called out to the assailants.

The armed suspect allegedly pointed his firearm at the soldier.  The soldier reportedly discharged two rounds at the assailant, wounding him in the process.

The gunman was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.

Meanwhile, officers from Freeport Police Station on an anti-crime exercise in Couva between 3 pm and 6 pm, carried out a search at an abandoned structure on Carli Bay Road, where they discovered one pistol loaded with a magazine.

And between 6 pm and 10 pm yesterday, North Central Division Task Force officers searched a bushy area in St. Augustine, where they found one pistol and a magazine.

In addition, during the exercise in North Central Division, a 59-year-old Valsayn man was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
