Two ‘Champs’ Records Set on Friday

Two records fell on an action packed fourth day as Kingston College and Hydel continue to set the pace at the 115th ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National stadium.

Tashana Godfrey of Edwin Allen broke the class three girls 80m hurdles record in the heats, logging 11.15 seconds to erased the old mark of 11.33 seconds set by Kareecia Thompson of Immaculate Conception high in 1996.

Her teammate Macaela Gordon also went under the old record winning heat-4 in 11.31 seconds.

The other record came in the class four girls high jump final where Sanique Watt of Immaculate scaled 1.73 metres to win the gold.

Afharia Anderson of Holmwood 1.64 meters and Desta Robinson of Hydel 1.61 meters claimed the other podium places.

In other finals so far on day four Shamar Shaw of Calabar soared 6.47 meters to secure the class three boys long jump title, beating Daquan Dawkins of Kingston College and Jamaica College’s Omeco Henclewood.

Brandane Malcolm of Hydel successfully defended her title in the class two girls discus with a throw of 46.54 metres.

After 16 finals on the boys side, defending champions Kingston College are leaders with 110.5 points, Calabar in second with 85, JC is third with 60 points, St. Jago fourth with 37 points and Excelsior is fifth 35 points.

On the girls side Hydel remain in the lead after 18 finals scored with 103 points, they are followed by Holmwood, 91 points, defending champions Edwin Allen third with 85, Immaculate in fourth, 55, and St. Jago on 50 points in fifth.
