Police in Orange Walk have arrested and charged two individuals for public drinking after they were caught consuming alcohol in a public park on Sunday night. The incident occurred just before eight o’clock when one Police Constable was conducting a mobile patrol with another officer along Ketz Lagoon Street near Botanical Park. According to police, their attention was drawn to a male and female sitting inside the park drinking from bottles marked “Belikin Beer.” The officer approached the pair, retrieved the bottles, and informed them that they were committing an offence under public drinking laws. The individuals were identified as 43-year-old Eric Javier Wright, a labourer of Mopan Street, and 31-year-old Saskia Shanine Mendez, a labourer of Blue Creek Street, both residents of the Orange Walk District. They were escorted to the Trial Farm Police Substation, where the beer bottles were sealed and labeled as evidence in their presence. Subsequently, they were charged for the offence of public drinking. Police say the case forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce municipal bylaws and promote public order across the district.
