Two Men Charged After Posing as Police in Belize City Robbery

Two Belize City men accused of posing as police officers during a daring daylight robbery are tonight behind bars after being formally charged in court.  Investigators say the incident unfolded yesterday evening along Daly Street, where a vape shop became the target of what authorities describe as a bold and calculated hold-up. The complainant, Dylan Vasquez, reported that two armed men entered the establishment, allegedly posing as law enforcement officers, before making off with twenty-three thousand dollars in cash, two boxes of vape products valued at nine hundred dollars, and a black fanny pack containing personal documents.  Police say the suspects attempted to flee the scene on a motorcycle, but a swift response led to a chase through Belize City. During that pursuit, one of the men reportedly opened fire at officers, though no one was injured. Both suspects were eventually apprehended and taken into custody.  Charged in connection with the incident are twenty-seven-year-old Kenroy Amani Daly, a security guard of Sarstoon Street, and twenty-six-year-old Ahkeem Rashawn Danderson, a labourer of Raccoon Street Extension. The pair has been jointly charged with robbery, false pretence of a police officer, keeping unlicensed firearms, and keeping ammunition without a license.  Daly faces an additional charge of aggravated assault with a firearm against Police Constable Eddison Cassasola.  This afternoon, the men appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed where they were read a total of nine charges between them. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.  Due to the seriousness of the offences, bail was denied, and the men were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 30.
